Swim Team 2011

How have I made it all they way to August without sharing swim team pictures with what is left of my readers? I do realize that swim team has been over for the better part of 6 weeks, but better late than never, right?

Right?

This year, Dane and Aidan both participated on our local neighborhood's swim team. I realized a couple of years ago that neighborhood swim teams are a foriegn concept to those of you living in other parts of the country or state. The larger subdivisions in my neck of the woods have a clubhouse and a pool, and most of them host a swim team for kids from 3 years old through high school age. The team practices daily from April-June, and has Saturday swim meets for about 6 weeks. For the past several years, we have participated in a team that teaches the younger kids how to swim, and Dane and now Aidan have both swimmers. Dane enjoys swimming, but it's not his strongest sport. Thanks to that pesky broken arm, swim team was his only option in regards to sports this past spring.

I love typing the word "spring" right now. Makes me forget just for the briefest of moments that it is 112 degrees outside.

Dane's in the green goggles. And yes, he did get beat by that kid in the speedo with the perfect dive.

I love my boy and his "chin up" diving style.
Aidan had soccer games most Saturdays, and got to finally swim in the last meet of the year last weekend. I think he was a wee bit nervous (and may have disqualified by pulling on the rope), but if you ask him, "I won my race and beat the other kid".
That's him in Dane's green goggles:
As always, one of the best parts about swim team is the buddies. We had lots of buddies on our team this year, and I'm so glad that my family has such good friends to share experiences with.
And, yes, Aidan has remarkably skinny hips.
And, yes, we probably need to rethink his swimsuit positioning.
